New collection: Brass handles and knobs
We are now launching our new collection of brass handles at Freya Home. Brass, or yellow metal, is a very popular material that Swedes like to have on their kitchen doors or wardrobe doors.
We saw a clear need in the market that there were no manufacturers of brass handles that had good quality, stylish handles and at a reasonable price. Therefore, we want to make it easier for you to beautify your homes with a good range of high-quality brass handles and knobs in brass.
High quality brass handle
Upgrade your kitchen doors or your wardrobe with our beautiful brass handles. There are usually a few things you should look for to understand if brass handles are of good quality.
What is brass and how do you know it is good quality?
Brass is an alloy (mixture) of copper and zinc. It is usually 65% copper and 35% zinc and this also explains why brass feels solid and heavy.
The quality of brass can therefore be felt in terms of its weight. It is also important to understand the difference in different finishes such as polished untreated, brushed treated and untreated.
-
Polished brass:
If brass handles are polished, they usually don't age as quickly. The brass is then varnished and therefore doesn't come into contact with air or other elements (e.g. fingerprints) - that's why it's easier to care for. They will look the same year after year. -
Polished unlacquered brass:
Polished (i.e. treated) brass that is not varnished. Without varnishing, brass comes into contact with air and thus it will age, take on a more dull appearance - it is usually said that it will get a patina. With polishing/polishing agents, the finish can be polished again. -
Untreated brass (also called pure brass):
Brass comes directly from the factory and is not polished or varnished. It ages quite clearly and many people tend to think that aged brass is nice.
At Freya Home we primarily use polished brass. It is usually the finest variety that requires the least time and polishing on your part, so you can spend your time on other things.
How to best care for your brass handles and knobs
Ideally, use only a damp, clean cloth when cleaning your brass handles and knobs. If there are stains that cannot be removed with the cloth, there are polishes available at most well-stocked grocery stores.
